Choosing For You- A Totally Different Reality Around Choice.
By Danielle Tooley
Did you know that your choices can be good for just 10 seconds?
What does that mean? Well in simplicity it means you can choose again and again and you are not locked into your choice! Did that make your head spin? I know right? We are taught in life that once we have made a decision we must stick to it. We decide we are going to set a goal and no matter what it looks like we will make that goal happen even if it makes us miserable.
The issue here is that because we have made the commitment to ourselves, we feel as if we have to complete that task even if it kills us! Then we go into judgement of ourselves if we don’t stick to it or resent that fact that we have to stick to it, all of which gives us absolutely no choice and a whole lot of unhappiness about feeling choice less! Argh I know exhausting.
So we live a reality of I can only choose this and when I choose this I must stick to that choice.
As children we are taught that this is the only choice we can have. For example it maybe that we can only have the one toy to play with, or the one ice-cream flavour. Sound familiar? I know I am guilty of this with my own kids and then I remember that I have another choice and I look at other ways of being with them. I might say “what would you like to choose?” You might even do this with yourself as it could be entrained in you also from a young age. It could be that you look at things and say this is my only choice available so I will make the most of it even if it makes me miserable. Well guess what? You have another choice, you can choose to choose! So what if you asked yourself some questions to invite more of the choice that you have always known is possible and never allowed into your reality.
Here are just a few questions to start with;
- What else is available here that I have not yet considered?
- What will my life be like in 5,10,20 years time if I choose this?
- If I were choosing for me what would I really like to choose?
- What choices do I have available to me that no-one else has?
- What choice here will create the greatest future possibilities?
- Does this choice feel heavy or light for me to choose? (Note a lie will make you feel heavy and a truth will make you feel lighter)
You see questions empower and an answer disempowers. When you ask questions you create an awareness of what you are asking. It also invites you to whole lot of different possibilities in your life. You can choose as many things as you desire, no limits just a whole lot of choices. No matter what anyone says, no matter what it looks like, and even if you have more fun than you ever imagined! Phew. Sound like a great choice? Well get choosing then!
Not choosing creates choice-less! Choosing creates choice, creates awareness of more choices, which can in turn creates more possibilities, a life of more ease and even a life that you would really like to have.
What would you like to choose?
